Q: “Hey Pam, what’s the best place I haven’t tried yet for a nice dinner tonight? I’m primarily a meat eater but appreciate good fish and seafood. Preferably mid-Island to North Shore — and not a power scene.”
A: Great question! Here are a few standout spots that fit the bill:
- Kills Boro, open for lunch and dinner daily except Tuesday, at 814 Richmond Terr. which is excellent but very pricey. It’s new and the menu is all over the place, but I am sure they’ll work out these kinks. It’s taken them a few years to open so I’ll give them some grace there and hope they do well.
- Raval Steakhouse on Minthorne St. next to Flagship Brewing Co. is noisy on weekends but has wonderful food.
- Mello Bistro in Rosebank has Franco-American fare in a nice, calm atmosphere. Here is my original review of the place — silive.com/dining.
- Opera Cafe in Dongan Hills — in the former space of Pasticceria Bruno — is like a diner but with a lounge and American-Turkish fare, very good food and with an unusual decor.
